Modern Approach to Ancient Wisdom
Permaculture is a world-wide movement that offers a natural way to design for the needs of modern living -based on an ethic of Earth Care.

The course is designed to easily fit your schedule. One weekend a month for six months.

This course has something for everyone -Students, Homeowners & Design Professionals -includes inspiring examples of sustainable land use and human ingenuity from around the world.  Through lecture, group discussion, guest speakers, field trips and additional hands-on work opportunities, you will learn the basics of Permaculture Design, Planning and Site Analysis. The course begins with an in depth look at the natural environment -then we learn to apply ecological principles to the built environment AND the cultural environment -our families, homes, neighborhood, business and community. Final course work includes student design presentations, community project and (the infamous!) Trade and Talent Show.

Part One  Oct 14 & 15 and November 11 & 12, 2006
Fire, Water, Earth & Air...
Introduction to Permaculture and Natural Pattern Understanding. The first two weekend sessions will cover an in-depth introduction to Permaculture Design & Ethics of Earth Care with a special presentation on reading the patterns of the landscape. New Ecology, Geometry of Nature and BioMimicry provides a simple foundation for understanding Indicators of Sustainability and other patterns of the natural world.

Part Two  Dec 9 & 10, 2006 and Jan 13 & 14, 2007
Food, Water, Shelter & Energy...
Designing & Building the Complete Home Ecosystem - Sustainable Resource Management. The second part will focus on: simple techniques for designing, remodeling & building a complete green home... Alternative energy & fuels, restorative agriculture, natural building, as well as learning ancient techniques for Earth stewardship and land restoration.

Part Three  Feb 10 & 11 and Mar 10 & 11, 2007
Community & Green Business...
EcoVillage Design and Community Celebration. The final sessions will feature: community building & "creating a sense of place," patterns of human dynamics, intentional communities & eco-villages. We will also learn strategies for creating community-wide sustainability and methods for finding our own right-livelihoods. Design team presentations and awards. Plus -Community Celebration, Trade and Talent show!

PLUS other local experts and guest speakers.
