Emacs! 200-kilowatts of solar capacity, the solar panels will create 10 percent of the college's                                                                             energy and reduce the college's approximate $700,000 energy bill through renewable energy,

Hey everybody, this is really exciting-
Santa Barbara City College (SBCC) has installed Solar panels on the West Campus parking lot, built cleverly as shade structures! (many will appreciate just for the shade factor for their cars, how's that for buy-in strategy from all).

Adam Green, Environmental Studies Program Coordinator and Director of the SBCC Center for Sustainability, and John Perlin, author of two books on Solar Energy, were instrumental in instigating this project after hearing about the cost saving California Solar Initiative offered by the state, then other dedicated and committed SBCC staff took over, bringing to fruition, see the You Tube video below for visuals of a job in process and now near completion.

I am happy to be the new part-time Coordinator for the SBCC Center for Sustainability, and encourage all to take a look at what they are doing and support.  With an educational institution taking on some of these critical roles in sustainability, the way is paved for others to follow.
