mentor recruitment

Please distribute to anyone who might be a good candidate for this type
of mentoring program or to agencies who are connected with the
appropriate client population. It is a good opportunity for all
involved.

Subject: AmeriCorps Restoring Youth and Communities Outreach

Friends, I am really excited to inform you that we are launching
California's Division of Juvenile Justice - AmeriCorps Restoring Youth
and Communities program...and we really need your help. Primarily we
are looking to recruit 34 young adults who have turned their lives
around and are interested in helping others do the same, esp. those who
have successfully discharged from DJJ (formerly the California Youth
Authority), and who are interested in exploring careers in juvenile
justice while helping DJJ youth in facilities and on parole make
positive changes and connections. They will serve fulltime over an
eleven month period beginning in January 2008 as "service-learning
coaches," helping DJJ youth identify and learn about issues they care
about, such as drug abuse, youth violence, education; and assist them
with developing service-learning projects that address such issues in
DJJ facilities and their communities. They also will recruit and
connect DJJ youth with adult volunteers and community based
organizations and opportunities. AmeriCorps Members will receive a
living allowance, health and child care benefits, and an educational
award upon completion of the program.

Thanks for your interest, and if you happen to know of someone who might
be interested, or organizations that may be able to help us get this
opportunity out there, I would greatly appreciate you passing the word
along.

Lori Lee, a veteran parole agent at DJJ and kindred soul has been
selected as the program director and can be reached at
lori.lee@cdcr.ca.gov, or 916/262-1363. Please help us find through your
networks those remarkable candidates that we know are out there. I've
attached a flyer, answer sheet, and application. The materials are also
available at www.cdcr.ca.gov/Divisions_Boards/DJJ/index.html
