Hello all,

I am doing this project at my daughters elementary school, Wilshire Crest Elementary School in LAUSD, to beautify the front with two native gardens.  One is heavily shaded and will represent native plants normally in the LA chaparral environments typically found under live oaks, the other will be a full sun loving native bird & butterfly habitat. Over the next week or so I will need volunteers to help dig up most of the existing plants and set down a sheet mulch. We are going to set the days for the weekend of April 19 or
April 26th.    Does anybody know of anyone who would like to help us?   This project is very public because it is on Olympic/ La Brea near Miracle Mile.

Then on May 3, 2008 we are to plant as part of "Big Sunday"  all the new native plants.

Even more exiting is whats going to come next!  After the completion of this beautification,  we are going on to start a permaculture-like teaching garden on the campus itself.  We plan to apply for a grant in October 2008 to execute this and begin the transformation of the campus this time next year.  Another school nearby, Carthay Elementary School, is helping us write the grant, because they were awarded money last year.  We will start planning for this starting late May early June 2008.
Anybody interested?
