hugelkulturHappy holidays folks!
I'm writing to invite you to a gathering at Cross Bull Ranch (www.CrossBullRanch.com) in Topanga, CA Sunday, December 30th.

We're starting a series of workshop/dinner/dance parties!

This Sunday will be a Hands-On Hugelkultur workshop and mini-film fest.

Hugelkultur is an ancient German horticulture technique that involves piling up logs and branches, burying them and planting food crops into the mound.

Some of it's benefits include:
  • minimal to no irrigation required (depending on climate)
  • ergonomic access to plants
  • micro-climate creation
  • wind breakage
  • increased surface area per square feet of footprint
  • ideal for growing annuals and perennials including trees
  • increased fungal activity
  • no unnatural materials needed
  • works better over time for many years
  • turns slash piles that are normally hauled or burned into nutrient/water rich growing medium
Schedule:
  • 1-2pm: Hugelkultur mini-film fest, tea, snacks.
  • 2-5pm Hands-on Hugelkultur workshop. We'll be building the wood core of hugelkultur mound (We'll have two follow up workshops, one to bury and mulch the mound after the wood has been thoroughly rain soaked, and another to plant after the last frost).
  • 5:30-7:30pm Potluck Dinner
  • 7:30-11pm Dance Party!!!
What to Bring:
  • Water
  • Warm clothes/long sleeves (we're in a frost pocket low in the canyon)
  • Sturdy Shoes
  • Gloves
  • Potluck dish or snack
  • $15 Donation
  • Willingness to sign liability waiver for hands-on activities
