Casitas Valley Farm  is honored and excited to offer this evening talk offered by Geoff Lawton, International Permaculture Educator and Designer and the founder of the Permaculture Research Institute of Australia, near to Santa Barbara and Ojai.  We will hear from Geoff about his experiences with establishing and tending to food forest systems often referred to as Forest Gardens.  These diverse, stable, resilient food systems, that mimic the structure of a natural forest, are self-sustaining, land healing, water purifying, carbon-sequestering and are possibly one of the most nutritionally productive systems for the future of food for humanity especially as we enter into the age of climate instability.  Geoff is a leader in the field of food forestry establishment and has an acclaimed video that has made its way around the world titled, "Establishing a Food Forest."  To register or for more info, please go to www.CasitasValley.com

Restoring Nature with Regenerative Agriculture
Creating Resilient Farms, Landscapes & Communities

~an evening with Australian Darren Doherty

with special guest John Roulac, organic food entrepreneur & founder & CEO of Nutiva

Evening Talk Thursday, September 11, 2014
7-9 pm, $5 Donation
Ojai Women's Club 441 E. Ojai Ave

Please join Santa Barbara Permaculture Network & community partners in Ojai for an evening talk with Australian farmer, author, and internationally recognized leader in regenerative agriculture, Darren Doherty, on Thursday, September 11, 7pm, at the Ojai's Women's Club in Ojai.

Part of the 2014 Regrarians World Tour, Darren Doherty shares his vision of restoring degraded agriculture and other broadacre landscapes found across the US and other parts of the world with regenerative strategies for soil creation, water harvesting, and most exciting, capturing atmospheric carbon dioxide (carbon sequestration) to help address global climate change, using the microbiology of healthy soils.

Regrarians (Regrarians = Regenerative Agrarians) is a term coined by Darren to describe the serious and timely process of regenerating, restoring, rehabilitating, rekindling and rebooting healthy production landscapes across the planet.  And not a moment too soon, with California currently facing serious issues of drought, severe soil loss and degradation, polluted waters, and potentially devastating wildfires; all needing innovative solutions now.

Darren Doherty has extensive experience across the world in project design, development, management & training. A career-long focus on the profitable & regenerative retrofit of broadacre landscapes has seen Darren acclaimed as a pioneer in this important field.  He is an internationally renowned fifth generation farmer, permaculture teacher, author and trainer who has developed close to two thousand projects in fifty countries and five continents.  He created and teaches Keyline Design®, Carbon Farming, Regenerative Agriculture, along with the RegenAG® + Regrarians® course series currently used world wide.

A panel discussion will follow the talk, facilitated by Leif Skogberg of the Ojai Foundation, who will host a 3 day Regrarian Workshop with Darren Doherty Sept 12th-14th. (see below for more information).

The event takes place on Thursday, September 11, 7-9 pm at the Ojai Women's Club 441 E. Ojai Ave, Ojai CA, 93023.  Donation $5, no reservations required.  More info: ojaivalleygreencoalition.org, or call (805) 669-8445.

Sponsored by the Ojai Valley Green Coalition & the Nutiva Nourish Foundation
Co-Sponsors: The Ojai Foundation, Center for Regenerative Agriculture & Santa Barbara Permaculture Network

The evening talk is followed by a 3 day workshop on the beautiful Ojai Foundation site in the Upper Ojai Valley;

LAND RESTORATION TRAINING

OCTOBER 2-5, 2014

early bird registration by Sept 1 for $75 discount

WITH CRAIG SPONHOLTZ, WATERSHED ARTISANS, INC. (http://watershedartisans.com/) and Brenton Kelly, Quail Springs Farm Director & Land Steward

Held at Quail Springs Permaculture in the Cuyama Valley (www.quailsprings.org)

“Craig Sponholtz's courses are a must. I was very impressed with the thoroughness, hands-on learning, and Craig's deep knowledge - based on years of real-life experiences. The strategies taught are simple and effective. They build on natural patterns so you work with natural processes not against them. This way nature does the bulk of the work once the structures are in place. I highly recommend these courses for anyone working with the land and water.” ~ Brad Lancaster, author of Rainwater Harvesting for Drylands and Beyond

This 4 day Project-Based Land Restoration Training offers hands-on experience in the assessment, design and construction of an on-going land restoration project and an intensive immersion and experiential training in:

                ◦              Reading the landscape and make informed decisions

                ◦              Recognizing the symptoms and causes of degraded land

                ◦              Identifying regenerative natural processes

                ◦              Understanding how humans effect and are affected by the landscape

                ◦              Designing resilient solutions for landscape problems

                ◦              Understanding management options for degraded land

                ◦              Healing degraded land by harvesting runoff

                ◦              Deciding what is doable and what should be done first

                ◦              Planning and preparing to complete a successful project

                ◦              Maintaining a project and ensure its long-term success

Craig Sponholtz founded Dryland Solutions, Inc. in 2003, renamed Watershed Artisans, Inc. in 2014, and continues to design and implement watershed restoration projects throughout the Southwest.  Craig spent a decade expanding his knowledge of landscape processes by working throughout the western U.S. with the USDA Forest Service, and has a Master’s Degree in Agro-Ecological Restoration. Craig has had comprehensive training in numerous stream and wetland restoration methods including natural channel design and induced meandering and continuously learns new techniques to incorporate into his work and teaching.  Craig teaches land and watershed restoration, passive water harvesting and erosion control techniques internationally and strives to foster beneficial relationships between people and the watersheds they live in by sharing the practical trials, tribulations and insights of his own work.  Craig has used two decades of hands-on experience and numerous collaborations with masters in the field to develop must-know principles that ensure water-related projects are practical, economically viable and harmonious with natural processes.
