ECO-HOME™ NETWORK Seeks Earth-Friendly Homes for Tour

Eco-Home™ Network is currently seeking homes to participate in The Homes for the Future: A Tour of Sustainable Living in Southern California will be held in October, 2000.

Homes throughout Southern California are sought which incorporate features of sustainability such as the use of non-toxic, alternative or recycled building materials; greywater and other water conservation systems; drought tolerant landscaping, organic gardening and composting; and energy conservation and energy generation using alternative systems. Participants will be asked to open their homes to the public, share their experiences, and demonstrate the principles of sustainable lifestyles.

The Homes for the Future Tour is affiliated with The National Tour of Solar Homes, a program of the American Solar Energy Society. Eco-Home™ Network, which offers year-round tours of its own sustainable demonstration site in Los Angeles, is coordinating the Southern California Tour for the third year. HOMES FOR THE FUTURE: A Tour of Sustainable Living in Southern California*

Underground homes...Homes made of strawbales, sandbags, clay, and recycled materials...Homes that rely on the sun for energy, heat, and light. Is this a flashback to the past...Or are these HOMES FOR THE FUTURE? You decide...

ECO-HOME™ NETWORK, an organization dedicated to creating a more sustainable future–starting in our own homes, backyards and communities, will host the Homes for the Future Tour on March 25 and 26, from 10a.m. to 4p.m. Thirty inspiring homes and gardens that illustrate the diversity, artistry, cost-saving and health aspects of an environmentally conscious way of life are showcased on this self-guided Tour. Homes from Santa Barbara to San Diego will include these features: design elements: passive solar orientation, integration with the natural landscape alternative materials for structures and furnishings sun powered systems that produce hot water and electricity solar radiant heating and cooling resource efficient appliances and equipment drought tolerant landscaping and organic gardening water conservation methods, including graywater systems waste reduction through recycling and composting non-toxic products that reduce hazardous waste and keep our air and water clean alternative-fueled vehicles and more!

Experience first-hand the unique environment of a sustainable home and meet resourceful people who are creating a more healthful way to inhabit the planet. Homeowners, architects, environmental consultants and ECO-HOME™ volunteers will be available to answer your questions. Suggested contribution for the Tour is $10 per adult per day and may be applied towards ECO-HOME™ NETWORK’s membership fee of $25.
