Make Your Own Rain Barrel Workshop
Saturday, January 16 2010.  2:00pm-4:30
Location: South Bay Botanic Garden http://southbaybotanicgarden.org/

Are you ready for the rain?  If you’ve been looking for a cost effective way of saving rainwater, we are offering a solution.  Come and make your own rain barrel to take home!  Britt Cool, from San Diego Water Recycling and Brook Sarson, of H2OME (www.h2o-me.com) will host the class.

We will provide clean, recycled 55 gallon drums along with a kit of parts to tap it for a hose fitting on the bottom and an overflow on the top.  You will be able to drill your holes and assemble your barrel onsite.

We will talk about filtration, mosquitoes, how to figure out your water resources, uses for your rainwater, as well as other rainwater harvesting techniques, from about 2-3 and then we will go outside to assemble the barrels.

After the class, you can purchase additional barrels and kits, if you choose.

The cost of the class is $65, which includes a $5 donation to the garden.  Additional Barrels are $32.  The cost of attending the class but not taking home a barrel is $25, $5 of which is a donation to the garden.

RSVP to brook@h2o-me.com or call 619.964.4838 by Monday, January 11 to ensure you will get the barrel of your choice.  When you RSVP for the class please include your choice of barrel (see below), so we will have enough on hand.

Address: South Bay Botanic Garden at Southwestern Community College,
900 Otay Lakes Road
Chula Vista, CA 91910-7223.

We will talk about filtration, mosquitoes, how to figure out your water resources, uses for your rainwater, as well as other rainwater harvesting techniques.  We will also be installing barrels on a shed at the IRC New Roots Community Farm, so you can see how the barrel fits into a complete system from roof to garden.

After the class, you can purchase additional barrels and kits, if you choose.

The cost of the class is $65, which includes a $5 donation to the New Roots Farm.  This donation will go towards the barrels we will be installing onsite.  If you would like to participate in the workshop but do not want to take home your own barrel, the cost is $25, sliding scale.   Please bring Cash.

This will be a great opportunity to connect with community members and learn more about using our water resources.

Please RSVP by Monday, January 25 to ensure your choice of barrel is available.  When you RSVP note which barrel you want (see below).  You can RSVP to brook@h2o-me.com or call 619.964.4838
