Advancing Permaculture- Support the Environmental Charter High School! We're pleased and proud to announce that the Environmental Charter High School (ECHS) in Lawndale, host of EarthFlow's permaculture courses and the project site of one of our class design teams, has been chosen as one of the top six public schools in the country to compete for a Presidential Commencement address.
The public decides who the three finalists will be by voting. Voting runs from April 26- 29 with the winner to be selected by the White House from the top three scoring schools.
Please support the ECHS's continued good work by casting your vote beginning April 26. For more information, please visit the school's website on April 26 www.echsonline.org
Last fall the White House called on public schools to submit applications for President Obama's Race To The Top High School Commencement Challenge.
The critieria: demonstrate academic excellence and a high percentage of graduates headed to college. The prize: Obama speaking at the winner's commencement.
ECHS has met the criteria and surpassed high schools all across the country to make it into the final six. That's a tremendous accomplishment for a school that opened its doors in Lawndale, California, nine years ago with 100 students and a dream of getting low income students college and career ready.
Congratulations ECHS!
