Greetings,

We're looking forward to another awesome adventure in learning with a fabulous group of nearly 30 people coming from near and far for our upcoming PDC and Watershed courses. Our PDC course will have even more hands-on than ever before.  A few spaces are still available in both courses, including some work trade for the PDC!  And if you mention that you heard about either course on this permaculture list, we'll give you 10% OFF as encouragement :)  Payment plans are always possible.

With fall in the air, the turkeys foraging, the goats sharing delicious milk, the leaves turning and the chill of the evening inviting us to sit by the fire and share stories and visions and songs, we look forward to sharing and creating with you!

Hands-On Permaculture Design Certification Course (PDC) is sponsored by Quail Springs Permaculture, an internationally recognized permaculture education organization.

The grassroots Permaculture movement promotes effective methodologies for attaining sustainability worldwide.

This 2-week course covers the permaculture curriculum for certification, and includes hands-on learning in a diversity of applied topics that lead to sustainability for individuals, families, businesses and communities.

Instructors:  Learn with Warren Brush, international educator, founder of True Nature Design and co-founder of Quail Springs, with a team of passionate and knowledgeable instructors.

Course Topics include an introduction to:

Integrated Design - Biomimicry - Sm. Scale Food Production  Integrated Pest Mgmt  Composting  Tree Planting  Water Harvesting -Greywater Systems  Compost Toilet Systems  NaturalBuilding Earthworks  Watershed Restoration  Keyline  Appropriate Technology Beekeeping BioEngineering  Alternative Economics -Green Job Preparation -Livestock Care  Goat Milking  Pastured Poultry  Cheese Making  Bread Baking  Saving the Harvest Community Building  Nature Awareness

Permaculture is a conscious integrated design system based on ecology and sustainability principles to create resource efficient and productive human environments and reduce our footprint on the earth.Permaculture provides a framework for consciously designed landscapes that mimic the patterns and relationships found in nature that provide diversity, stability, and resilience. These systems yield an abundance of shelter, water, energy, and food for the provision of local needs.

and Owen Hablutzel, Holistic Management InternationalCertified Educator

at Quail Springs Permaculture

Dates: November 27 - December 1, 2012

Applied Watershed Restorationis designed for landowners and land managers, as well aspractitioners, farmers, ranchers, restorationists and advancedstudents of Permaculture. It emphasizes working with, rather than against, nature and will establish the foundationalknowledge needed to work effectively with ourmost precious resource, water.

Increase your working knowledge of water harvesting, erosioncontrol and stream restoration practices with this four-day,intensive, hands-on workshop.

Acquire the criticalskills needed to recognize the root-causes of watershedproblems and identify the best opportunities tomake improvements.

Learn how to assess, design, planand implement projects that utilize runoff as a resource.

Directlyapply these new skills during the watershed restoration practicumand graduate with the confidence to evaluate the pros andcons of any water harvesting, erosion control and restoration techniques.

In addition, gain exposure to cutting-edge watershedrestoration methods including natural channel design, inducedmeandering and agro-ecological restoration.

Topics include:

Watershed Patterns and Processes -Reading Water Patterns and Processes,Form and Function of Channel Systems,Erosion and Deposition Dynamics,Watershed Health and Degradation

Landscape-Scale Passive Water Harvesting -Passive Water harvesting Features,Traditional Runoff Farming ,Agro-Ecological Restoration,Water harvesting Earthworks,Simple Irrigation Systems

Degradation Prevention and Restoration -Watershed Restoration Principles,Restoration Project Development,Low Energy Sheet flow Treatments,In-Channel Grade Control Treatments,In-Channel Headcut Treatments,Bank Erosion Treatments,Watershed Restoration Applications

Watershed Restoration Practicum - Site Assessment and Survey Skills, Restoration Project Design,Project Planning and Logistics, Site Layout, Hands-on Structure Building
