Naturalist
(Recreation Leader Specialist V, VII or X)


About the Nature Center:

The Nature Center's 102-acre wildlife habitat is an island of serenity
in the midst of the busy urban landscape.  Two lakes, a stream, two
miles of dirt trail and a 1/4- mile paved access trail wind through
meadows and forested areas.  Serving as a center for environmental
education, Nature Center staff encourages an awareness of and
appreciation for the environment through classes and tours that provide
hands-on experiential learning.


Salary:

These are year-round, part-time positions that can range from 15-30
hours a week.  Hourly wage ranges from $10.23 to $14.93 an hour.
Placement within this range will depend on Nature Center needs, specific
job duties and a candidate's prior experience and qualifications.


Requirements:

? Experience in interpretive teaching or equivalent course work.
? Interest in nature and wildlife conservation.
? Enjoy working with children in a natural outdoor setting.
? Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
? Availability to work some evenings and weekends.
? Bilingual ability a plus.
? Valid California Driver's license.


Responsibilities:

? Lead educational tours for school and scout groups
? Develop and implement curriculum materials for tours and classes
? Present outreach programs to schools and community groups.
? Coordinate and staff special events.
? Create museum displays and educate the public about concepts presented
in the museum.
? Lead monthly evening and weekend walks.
? Participate in ongoing staff development.
? Develop promotional strategies for programs and classes.
? Coordinate programs and projects for Nature Center volunteers.
? Participate in grounds maintenance projects including planting,
weeding and watering of native plant habitats.
