Hi folks, I am preparing a lecture for my AP Environmental Science course and came across the following numbers:
A 2000 study by the World Conservation Union, Conservation International, and the World Wildlife Fund estimate that 34% of the world fish (50% of freshwater species), 25% of the world amphibians, 24% of the world mammals, 20% of reptiles, 14% of plants, and 12% of birds are currently threatened with extinction.

I invite you to do something to promote habitat and preserve species this holiday season - get a batbox for your home or give one as a gift, spend a day restoring native plant communities, or choose to make a donation to an organization that supports these efforts!  Extra credit if you also get friends to take this on!

Best wishes,
Joan
