Dear Permie Friends,

Shire Springs - a new budding community in the magic cradle of Big Bend California, is now looking for new members to join our team in co-stewarding this amazing land, vision, and community into bountiful fruition!

Shire Springs is a developing Ecovillage based on Permaculture Ethics & Peacemaking Principles offering affordable residential Ecovillage living opportunities and co-stewardship opportunities of an amazing 82 acre property producing an abundance of food, facilitating connection to nature, creating cottage industries, and embodying a culture of human beings living harmoniously with each other and their environment.

Nestled in a lush, sacred valley midpoint between the peaks of Mt. Shasta and Mt. Lassen, Shire Springs abides in the heart of this abundant, geothermal bioregion riddled with hot springs, majestic wildlife, and other conscious kin in the tiny homesteading community of Big Bend, CA.

Recently purchased by a small collective of permaculture practitioners and conscious cultural land stewards, Shire Springs is situated on one the most dynamic pieces of land that many have come across in this region or elsewhere – a pure water-oozing, forest-covered, soil-rich oasis.

We are looking for the right people with appropriate and complementary skill sets, keen intuition and inspiration for what is present here, alchemized co-alignment with the vision, courageous action, and gracefully synchronistic timing…. to take the leap forward and join us on this co-creative adventure towards community resiliency in this bountiful bioregion.

We are offering what we feel is an amazing opportunity right now - special incentives of very affordable, discounted pricing for the next teir of membership shares for those who feel called to take action to join us as pioneers and catalysts of this sacred place and amazing property.

If you are interested in learning more, or attending an upcoming gathering this Spring and Summer at the Shire to see the land and meet some of the people involved, please email: shiresprings@gmail.com, and we will send you more information.

The next opportunity to come see the land for interested members is at a gathering over the weekend of May 9 - 12.

About the Shire

Along with being the name of the mythic Hobbit Village, the term “Shire” also refers to a rural cultural stronghold – which is just what this community is becoming.

At least 5 year round, cold springs flow from the edge of the forest into the ponds, meadows, and marshes below, providing the potential for mass gravity-fed irrigation, ponds, wetlands, chiampas, microhydro, and more. The weaving network of pure springs and streams dripping off the edge of this forest ecosystem into the lush meadow below naturally creates a dream-like system of ponds, marshes, and irrigation channels that open up possibilities for an extremely diverse array of productive food systems.

The property hosts a rustic, multi-bedroom Swiss-style lodge, built in the 1950′s, connected by flybridge to a longhouse, and overlooking a near two acre spring fed pond which hosts visiting geese, wood ducks, mallards, coots, large heron resting and fishing on the banks, and eagles, ospreys, and hawks flying overhead. Recent fire-prevention measures have opened up prime areas around the lodge for terraced permaculture gardens and retention ponds.

Shire Members share a common vision, the lodge, community land facilities, and each have a personally designated “Zone of Stewardship” to steward over the coming decades. Shire Springs has the vision, values, and intentions to steward this property into an Ecovillage model facilitating deeper connection to Nature, ourselves, each other, and as a Village for future generations to come.
