Hi Everyone -

it's Earth Day again!

Santa Barbara Permaculture Network will be in the HomeGrown Roots Section, space #224 & 225.  Look for the bright blue umbrella.

One World, One Climate, this years theme says it all...

We are so thankful CEC continues to sponsor a free event where the community can celebrate, and also meet with other community members, organizations, and even visiting politicians to discuss "what's the plan" as in addition to the unruly and disruptive weather patterns we've all been noticing with climate, we will have an additional billion people on the planet in less than 20 years.  This will take some intelligent & innovative thinking by all!

To initiate some of that thinking, Santa Barbara Permaculture Network is sponsoring a series of educational events about climate change, that we began in January with a Public Forum featuring Ethan Stewart reporting back from COP21 about the Paris Agreement and the implications specifically for our community & region, that included a wonderful panel of community members.  If you haven't seen it yet, you can view on our website at http://www.sbpermaculture.org/events.html.

We continued in March with a talk on Fighting Climate Change with Carbon Farming, and later the POLYFACE documentary film premiere, that showcased Joel Salatin of Polyface farm, who states emphatically, that if every farmer in the USA practiced carbon farming, in less than 10 years we could sequester all the carbon that has been emitted since the industrial revolution.  No small claim.

We continue on Friday May 6 with a co-sponsored event with the SBCC Environmental Horticulture Department featuring Dr. Rafter Sass Ferguson, Research Fellow at the University of Lisbon, speaking about Permaculture & the Climate Crisis: Science, Politics & Practice.  He has been involved with permaculture as a student, scholar & educator since 2003, and brings a unique perspective with his involvement with Liberation Ecology.  Stay tuned for more information or follow on Facebook event page: https://www.facebook.com/events/1113606562029227/

In the meantime, stop by our Earth Day booth, celebrate the day with us, there is a Sustainable Food Court nearby, we have table & chairs where you can eat your lunch, share thoughts, or just rest!
Emacs!
