CALIFORNIA ORGANIC FESTIVAL

The 5th annual California Organic Festival will be held Sunday
September 18th, at Alameda and Alice Keck Park, from 10 am to 6 pm.
For more information on the festival, please visit
www.organicfestival.com . The California Organic Festival,
co-sponsored this year for the first time by the Santa Barbara City
Parks and Recreation Department, will provide a fitting finale to
Organic Week, with a new, larger and incredibly lovely venue: the
City's crown jewel of parks, Alice Keck Park Park, with Micheltorena
Street blocked off, as well as the adjacent Kid's World Park section
of Alameda Park. The street will hold food and drink vendors; the
stage will feature music all day, with performers like Second Nature
(reggae), the Mustangs (rock), Kingsnake (Doors tribute band),
Bushwood (rock), and Three Days Later (acoustic), as well as others.
Vendors of organic products and services will line Kid's World Park,
and a Kid's Area will feature Luna Jumps bouncers, a petting zoo, and
a host of fun activities for kids. Alice Keck Park will be the site of
a series of fascinating and informative lectures on topics like
alternatives to pesticides, permaculture, sustainable landscaping, and
compost tea, featuring a host of top-level experts. There's no other
place to be for free music and entertainment, great organic food, and
valuable information and services, while the kids have a blast and
learn something at the same time.

The Pesticide Awareness and Alternatives Coalition (PAAC) is proud to
announce the 5th Annual California Organic Festival, as the finale to
Organic Week (September 12-18), a series of events in Santa Barbara to
celebrate the position of leadership that the community has created
for itself in the state and nation, with regards to municipal and
school pesticide use. As an honoring to the City Council of Goleta,
who recently banned use of toxic pesticides throughout the city of
Goleta, and the Goleta School Board, who just did the same, PAAC will
be presenting both entities with Ladybug Awards at the Organic
Festival. Both the cities of Santa Barbara and Goleta are now using
safe alternatives to pesticides, in a clear commitment to the health
of their children, and all inhabitants.

ROBERT F. KENNEDY JR LECTURE AND PRIVATE DINNER
On Friday, September 16, at 8pm, Robert F. Kennedy Jr.,
environmental lawyer and activist, will take the podium in a benefit
appearance for PAAC, appearing at the Lobero Theater for a lecture
entitled, "A Contract with Our Future". He will discuss the vital role
that our natural surroundings play in our work, health, and our
identity as Americans. He will explain how good governmental policy is
good business policy, good economic policy, and good policy for
posterity. Mr. Kennedy will also sign copies of his latest book,
"Crimes Against Nature", following his appearance at The Lobero.

The evening will be hosted by actor Anthony Zerbe, and will include
surprise guest celebrity appearances, award-winning film footage, and
a silent auction of a specially-created oil painting by
locally-renowned artist Richard Schloss.

Tickets for the Kennedy event are $27.50 per person, and can be
purchased at the Lobero Theater Box Office, 33 E. Canon Perdido, by
phone: (805) 963-0761, or online at <BLOCKED::http://www.lobero.com/>
www.lobero.com .

For those interested in a more intimate venue, a sponsorship dinner
with Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. will be held prior to the lecture at the
Lobero, and will be held at a lovely Montecito home. Space is limited.
For more information, please call (805) 965-4491.

ORGANIC TOURS

Saturday, September 17 will be a wonderful day for out-of-town
visitors and locals alike to get a backstage view of some of the
area's most beautiful, and pesticide-free, gardens; with spots like
the Santa Barbara Botanic Garden, Alice Keck Park Park, and Fairview
Gardens, among many others, opening doors for a visit. Local
restaurants will also participate in the self-tour, providing organic
and often gourmet-quality delights, from the Isla Vista Coop to
Lassen's to Spiritland Bistro and beyond. The tour map, soon available
at our website, www.organicfestival.com, is designed to initiate
locals and visitors alike to sample and view some of the unheralded
champions of the organic movement that call Santa Barbara home. It
would make a lovely weekend ramble to see some lesser-known beautiful
(and pesticide-free!) places in this city by the sea.

SANTA BARBARA COUNTY ORGANIC RESOURCES GUIDE

A guide listing chemical-free and green living resources
throughout the County of Santa Barbara, from Santa Maria to
Carpinteria, printed for the first time in both Spanish and English,
will be distributed at the Organic Festival, as well as in Santa
Barbara, Goleta, and Carpinteria at local bookstores and
organizations, and in Santa Maria through the Community Health Project
(EDC). The Guide will also include editorial information, regarding
specific dangers of pesticides, information on how to keep yourself
and family safe if you must use them, safe alternatives to pesticides,
and all the resources to find them. The Guide was printed thanks to a
generous grant by the Fund for Santa Barbara.

The Organic Festival is produced by Pesticide Awareness and
Alternatives Coalition (PAAC), a non-profit organization dedicated to
healthy communities; to educating the public on the dangers of
pesticide use, and available safe alternatives. For more information
on PAAC and the Organic Festival, visit
http://www.organicfestival.com .
