Diversity of Participants, Diversity of Ideas, Diversity of Solutions from
Around the Globe:

Learn about the International Permaculture Convergences

Come learn how these grassroots global convergences are organized, what the
challenges are for host organizations, and contribute your ideas of how to
keep them strong and resilient in the future.

Attending the International Permaculture Convergences (IPC) since 2005,
Margie Bushman & Wes Roe are founding members of the Friends of the
International Permaculture Convergences (FIPC), and the International
Permaculture Convergence Council (IPCC). Recently returned from IPC India,
they will share their experiences from this exciting event where nearly 1000
people from around the world attended. They will also share the news of the
next IPC in Argentina in 2020, followed by Taiwan in 2023.

The International Permaculture Convergences are the lifeblood of the global
permaculture movement. Started in the early 1980's when permaculture was
still relatively unknown, IPCs are now a bi-annual event hosted by a
different permaculture organization in a different country and region of the
world each time. We learn in the deepest way what our fellow global
citizens and permaculturists are experiencing as societies all over the
globe enter in an era of interconnected challenges. Participants from many
parts of the world come ready to share their skills, projects & knowledge.
With as many as 70 countries attending there is a diversity of participants,
for a diversity of ideas, resulting in a wonderful diversity of permaculture
solutions to share with the world.

Come learn how these grassroots global convergences are organized, what the
challenges are for host organizations, and how you might participate. A
creative and unique team crowdfund is sponsored for delegate scholarships
for each IPC, that is easy and fun to participate in, with your local
permaculture association or organization as team members representing your
region.

Presenters: Margie Bushman & Wes Roe

Margie Bushman & Wes Roe are co-founders of Santa Barbara Permaculture
Network, an educational non-profit founded in 2000, that has sponsored
hundreds of workshops and events about permaculture, ecological design,
sustainability, natural building, and other related topics in the Southern
California region. Santa Barbara Permaculture Network hosts an annual
community Seed Swap that has more than 500 attendees, celebrating its 10th
anniversary in 2018. An ongoing Civics 101 for Climate Change education
series was launched by Santa Barbara Permaculture Network in 2015, after the
Paris Agreement & COP21 identified cities and local governments as key
problem solvers for the impacts of our changing climate.

Margie was the Program Coordinator for the Santa Barbara City College Center
for Sustainability (2010-2014), creating unique programs such as the Cities
As the Solutions series, and From Green Jobs to Building the Blue Economy.
For over a decade, Wes Roe served as board member & president of the
Permaculture Credit Union, and currently on the board of the Permaculture
Institute of North America (PINA) that is developing standards for
Permaculture professionals in the US.

Both have served as volunteer coordinators for the International
Permaculture Convergence Support Group since its inception in 2005, that
later evolved into the Friends of the International Permaculture
Convergences (FIPC) & the International Permaculture Convergence Council
(IPCC). Both organizations seek to bring the widest audience & participants
to these International events where permaculturists from around the globe
can come together to share ideas & permaculture influenced solutions for a
better world. Many of the best ideas come from the countries with the least
resources, they lead the way with their ingenuity, adaptability, and
willingness to share.
