and conversation and Q&A

& food bites from 6-7pm

Saturday, July 7, 2018  •  7pm at the

Atascadero Agriculture Hall, 5035 Palm Ave.

WASTED AtascJuly7 2

WASTED! The Story of Food Waste. Anthony Bourdain, Mario Batali, Dan Barber, Massimo Bottura - Osteria Francescana, Mission Chinese Food's Danny Bowien, and world-famous chefs reimagine the future of food, and in the process, create delicious and sustainable solutions. #RethinkFood

The way we treat food effects everything, from the climate to the global fight against hunger.

"Food waste is a glaring measure of inequality. In poor countries, most of the food waste is on the farm or on its way to market... Very little food in poor countries is thrown out by consumers. It’s too precious.

But in wealthy countries, especially in the United States and Canada, around 40 percent of wasted food is thrown out by consumers."

A pre-movie mixer will happen between 6 and 7pm! movie starts at 7pm

A portion of the proceeds will go to the Lighthouse Foundation in Atascadero....

Welcome to our new tenant!

Within days of signing a lease for the two acres fronting the Freeway, Corey Richmond had it all disked, furrowed, irrigated and planted with pumpkins, beans and tomatos, just in time for Fall Harvest.

Corey has been farming throughout the County for several years.  He also grows veggies on several acres near Hollister Peak. And if that's not enough, he has his own surfboard shaping business in Morro Bay.  We are thrilled to add him to our team of independent farmers, Michael Huggins, Josh Carmichael, and Javier Magana.

Pacific Beach High School

Summer School's six week session of "Farm" is soon to conclude, with students earning academic credit at their twice weekly classes. Joined by teachers Lindsey Cooper and Terry Jacobsen, the students are steadily increasing their skills as farmers, cooks and independent problem solvers.

Our Global Family: Farm Girls Summer Camp

Teresa Lee's second year of Summer Camp brought 17 children to the farm for a week of educational and agricultural activities, cooking and wild play.  Congratulations, Tree!

SLO Rare Fruit Growers

City Farm welcomed Joe Sabol and his club members to the farm for their June meeting under the Pergola and a tour of student gardens and all our subtenants' operations.  In addition to their own refreshments, they brought along a five gallon apple tree for planting in our food forest.

Second Saturday Work Party

July 14 9:00-Noon

Please join our team to participate in the summer harvest and get some urgent work done.

We'll be cultivating and mulching the food forest to protect our growing orchard from the attack of bristly ox tongue and cheese weed.

We'll be adding string to the posts supporting growing tomatoes and peas.

We'll be planting a new crop of lettuce and spinach.

We'll be moving forward on the permanent installation of our pergola roof.
