Homeowners, renters, students, teachers, city planners, architects,
farmers, foresters; and other students of sustainability will gather
in Yellow Springs, Ohio, from September 2 - 11, 2005, for a 9-day
Permaculture Design Fundamentals course.

Permaculture is a design system, available to anyone, offering the
possibility to disengage from consumer culture using practical design
solutions which emulate natural patterns.
Permaculture is a worldwide environmental movement which combines
ancient wisdoms with scientific knowledge to form a set of ethics and
principles for creating  sustainable culture.
Since 1984, over 100,000 people have received Permaculture Design
Course certificates.

Some of the topics covered in a Permaculture Fundamentals course are:
. Basic design tools and techniques
. Replicating natural patterns in creating cultivated human ecosystems
. Restoring soil fertility
. Harvesting, use, and conservation of water
. Creating food forests and local foodsheds
. Healing cultural damage on personal, local, and global levels
. Integrating animals and aquaculture into your home system
. Erosion repair and prevention
. Processing human waste
. Natural building and appropriate technology
. Economic strategies for sustainable lifestlyes
. Sustainability in the city

The lead instructor for the course is Patricia Allison, who teaches
Permaculture from a deep ecology perspective, emphasizing cultural as
well as environmental change. She has taught workshops and Design
Courses throughout the US since 1994. Patricia practices what she
preaches at Earthaven Ecovillage, a Permaculture-based intentional
community near Black Mountain, NC, where she has made her home for the
past 9 years.
