American Community Garden Association Conference

ACGA's 27th Annual Conference will be held at the University of 
California in Los Angeles, California on August 10-13, 2006.

The ACGA Annual Conference brings together hundreds of individuals 
from across the United States, Canada, and abroad, who are engaged in 
all aspects of gardening and greening. The conference includes 
hands-on workshops, keynote speakers, a film festival, and visits to 
parks, school gardens, community gardens, and other green spaces in 
the Los Angeles area.

Conference registration is now available.
Regular registration (until July 23) is $250.

Air conditioned accommodations at UCLA's Sunset Village have private 
baths, cable television, telephones, internet access, and daily maid 
service. The cost will be $115 for a single and $70/person for a 
double, including breakfast.

CONFERENCE PREVIEW
Thurday, August 10
Pre-Conference Workshop: Learning in the Garden will feature the Life 
Lab and Garden Mosaics programs and well as exploring other 
garden-based curricula.
Pre-Conference Tours: Huntington Botanical Garden, Catalina Island 
cruise, and Venice Beach bicycle tour.
Welcome reception/cook out.


Friday, August 11
Opening plenary followed by workshops grouped by the following themes:
Youth
Public Policy
Food Security
Growing Your Organization
Horticulture
Design and Horticulture Therapy

Late afternoon open ACGA Committee meetings: Advocacy, 
Communications, Program/Youth, Research.

Friday evening: LA Dodgers baseball excursion, film festival, and 
shuttles to nearly LA areas.


Saturday, August 12
All day thematic tours with related workshops, some including service projects:
Food Security
Horticulture Therapy
Youth Camps
Youth/School Gardens
Communal Gardens
Political 101 Gardens
Art & Pocket Parks
Inner-City Community Gardens
Conservation/Gardens and Society
Historical Gardens.

Saturday evening: banquet featuring locally produced foods, silent 
auction, and keynote speaker John Jeavons.


Sunday, August 13
Some of the best workshops including:
Growing Greater Food Programs, The Stop Food Centre example
Show Your Gardens to the World (via the Internet)
Fences, Theft, and Vandalism
