Memo#1 on Preventing Deadly Conflict: Why Rush to War?

**This memo is sent to stimulate thinking in advance of the San Diego
Economic Conversion Council's 20th Anniversary program on "Preventing
Deadly Conflict: Non-Military Solutions for Global Security" - see
announcement about the October 14 program at end of this email**

Join us this Friday, August 26, to hear Congresswoman Maxine Waters speak
on "The Rush to War, the 'Out of Iraq Caucus' and the Revelations of the
Secret Downing Street Memo."

The Downing Street Memo describes a top-secret meeting among foreign policy
consultants to British Prime Minister Tony Blair, which took place eight
months before the U.S. invasion of Iraq. The memo was leaked to the Times
of London and published on May 1st, 2005. According to the memo: "Bush
wanted to remove Saddam, through military action, justified by the
conjunction of terrorism and WMD. But the intelligence and facts were
being fixed around the policy."

Representative Waters will be introduced by City Councilwoman and Mayoral
Candidate Donna Frye. The event is sponsored by Activist San Diego.
