This Week: U.S.Prison Industrial Complex

On Friday, August 25th, at 9:00 am, PST and on Monday, August 28th, at 12:00 noon PST, Sustainable World is broadcasting an interview with California State University and Santa Barbara City College professor, Dr. Helen Meloy, and lecturer, teacher, and drug and alcohol expert Oscar Ward. We'll be discussing the thriving Prison Industrial Complex in the United States. The US imprisons more people than any other country in the world. Who benefits from this industry? Are there more sustainable ways of dealing with non-violent offenders? How can ex-offenders stay out of jail?

Dr. Meloy is the executive director of the Clearwater Organization, a non profit that assists clients coming out of jail and prison in making positive change. Oscar Ward, an ex-offender, will be talking about his experience in jail, what helped him to affect lasting change, and the biggest challenges of re-entry into society.
