Check out this upcoming San Diego workshop on Rainwater Harvesting and Food
Forestry.

March 19-20, 2011

*Come learn how to design and install a permaculture inspired food
forest/orchard system that will passively harvest rainwater for
irrigation. This workshop will provide a broad overview of permaculture
techniques and strategies to:*

   - * Passively harvest rainwater *
   - *Design and plant a food forest *
   - *Build healthy living topsoil
   *

In this dynamic workshop participants will learn how to passively harvest
rainwater through land shaping earthworks. We will learn numerous types of
passive rainwater harvesting techniques including infiltration basins,
swales, terracing, and many others. Participants will also acquire skills
in basic surveying and use of simple hand tools to harvest rainwater.

After we have "planted the water," we will move into food forestry design
and implementation of a small multifunctional orchard system. Students will
learn a variety of planting strategies to grow a low maintenance food
producing oasis. In combination with planting a food forest, students will
also learn how to rapidly build living topsoil to nurture the plants, hold
more water, and provide long term fertility.

Course will be held at an upcoming permaculture demonstration site in the
Mount Helix area.
