Workshop: Rain for Food - Rainwater Harvesting for Food Security, Sky Mountain Permaculture, Escondido

November 8, 2015 from 9 am to 2 pm, Cost $30

Food security and the restoration of degraded lands are two of the most important issues we face today. In this workshop you will learn how to harvest thousands of gallons of rainwater on your property using simple systems that are often low cost or free, and create food forests to provide food in your backyard. Empower yourself to become more water and food self-sufficient, and resilient, in times of a changing climate or a break in the water or power line. Even during this period of drought and water scarcity, we can still grow food and create beautiful landscapes and this workshop will show you how to do that on a property of any scale.

Alden Hough has created an extensive permaculture water harvesting demonstration site at Harmony Grove and the workshop will include a tour of the property and earthworks partially designed by Paul Wheaton, and the opportunity to participate in hands-on earthworks construction and planting a food forest. He will be joined by local permaculture teacher and author, Diane Kennedy, who will be demonstrating how to create a food forest ecosystem incorporating native plants. Bring a picnic lunch and feel free to stay later for more hands on experience.
