WASHINGTON, DC, March 7, 2000 (ENS) - The U.S. Supreme Court ruled unanimously
Monday that states may not set safety and environmental standards for oil
tankers that conflict with or supplement federal regulations. The court said

protecting their shores from oil spills.

Development Under New Rules
By Cat Lazaroff
WASHINGTON, DC, March 7, 2000 (ENS) - New rules released Monday will
drastically
curtail the development of small wetlands across the United States. The U.S.
Army Corps of Engineers announced major revisions to its nationwide permit
program designed to protect thousands of acres of wetlands by making it far
more difficult to build anything near streams and marshes.

become
the world's best known tree-sitter for her two year vigil high atop a
California redwood, was verbally attacked Saturday night onstage during
her
keynote address to a conference of lawyers and activists. She was
describing her ordeal, the longest tree-sit in history, when a woman
charged the stage scolding Hill for giving money to Pacific Lumber Company
