A talk and slide presentation by ROBERT BOLMAN

  Wednesday March 29th, 7:00 - 9.00 p.m. ($3 suggested donation)
The Zalk Theater, Happy Valley School
  8585 Ojai/Santa Paula Road (Hwy 150), Ojai.

Robert Bolman is a licensed building contractor who lives in
an earthen and straw bale house in Eugene, Oregon. He is the
President of the Eugene Chapter of the Northwest Ecobuilding Guild.
This presentation provides a broad yet detailed overview of the more
radical approaches to environmentally innovative construction
combined with a critical analysis of mainstream U.S. housing in the
context of the poor distribution of the world's resources

Background.
From massive amounts of embodied energy to myriad toxic
chemicals making occupants sick to flagrant energy waste throughout
building life span to ultimate disposal in a landfill after just a
few decades, the construction of buildings in the U.S. constitutes a
major environmental problem. Add to that our sprawling, automobile
based land use patterns and the situation calls for an entirely new
paradigm of building and planning.
Natural Building, in its broader definition, is just such a
paradigm. Natural Building seeks to bring about a revival of the
traditional ways that our ancestors built houses and lived generally.
Natural Building dovetails perfectly with Voluntary Simplicity,
Intentional Community, Permaculture and Appropriate Technology to
bring about a lifestyle rich in simple pleasure, mindfulness, social
responsibility, creativity and happiness.
