Hi Everyone,
Next Friday, May 19th, the Temecula Valley Winegrowers Association is
hosting a technical conference about the Glassy Winged Sharpshooter (GWS) at
their annual Wine Grape Day. Specialists from UC's Riverside and Davis, the
local Resource Conservation District, and growers, will be the presenters.
The conference is open to the public, includes wine industry trade show
exhibits, and would probably be useful to activists seeking to better
understand the GWS and the wine industry. The GWS, and Pierces Disease, will
probably become an issue for citrus, ornamentals, and stone fruits, as well.
$55 includes full day conference and exhibit privileges, lunch and
afternoon wine and cheese reception. Contact telephone numbers are
800-801-9463 or 909-699-6586 to reserve.
Pierces Disease is a serious issue. There is credible evidence that
susceptibility to PD is directly proportional to poor farming practices
and/or farming on land not suited for grapes.
This conference presents an excellent opportunity to gain a quick
overview of PD and the GWS at the epicenter of the problem.
Thanks,
