The First Goleta Earth Day Celebration!!
20th anniversary of the Goleta Family School

GOLETA (CA) ---The Goleta Family School (GFS) located at Brandon Elementary
School grounds, is celebrating it's 20th anniversary by introducing the
first "Goleta Earth Day Celebration" at Girsh Park located behind "Cosco" on
Sunday, April 22nd from 11am-4pm;
In honor of Earth Day Weekend and the Goleta Family School's commitment to
the environment, all the activities and the entertainment will have an
earth-friendly theme, featuring games and crafts using recycled and
biodegradable materials.
A healthy Bake sale and a Silent Auction will help the school in its effort
to provide an exciting educational alternative in Goleta.
A Drum Circle, Eclectic Musicians and Kid's performances will be some of the
events planned.
Vendors and public interest groups are encouraged to participate!! (call for
details)!
The Goleta Family School was founded 20 years ago by a group of dedicated
educators in Santa Barbara.
The founders created a multi-age non-competitive school environment for the
students with the help of a curriculum called 'Tribes' which empowers
children by teaching cooperative problem solving skills, and giving children
a voice in the classroom. Learning takes place everywhere, at all times.
This year the children are involved in Habitat Restoration and in a variety
of hands-on scientific projects. Discovery, exploration and choices in
learning give the children the tools they will need to succeed as adults.
The Goleta Family School (GFS), is a tuition-free program offered by the
Goleta Union School District to parents of children in kindergarten through
grade six as an alternative to the traditional public school setting. Space
is limited and parents are encouraged to attend the "Open House" tours
offered during the year. Next open house is April 24th at 6:30 pm.
For more information about the school, call Marianne Henry at (805) 964-7909.

Don't miss your opportunity to be part of the Goleta Family School Community!
