Oct 20/21 Sat/Sun:The Parade of Green Buildings in Santa Barbara County, Ca
Join the Sustainability Project and CEC on this special tour of innovative
and environmentally friendly homes, offices and stores.
The second annual Parade of Green Buildings, a two-day tour of green
buildings in greater Santa Barbara, will take place on Saturday and Sunday,
October 20 and October 21. The Saturday tour will be in Santa Ynez Valley
and the Sunday tour in Goleta and Santa Barbara. Seven notable green
buildings, some residences, some commercial/institutional buildings will be
open to the public for touring between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. both days. "The
purpose of the project is to educate the local building community, as well
as the interested general community, about green practices," said Dennis
Allen, chair of the event. Tour participants will be able to view
innovative projects and systems that have been incorporated into pioneering
projects. Project architects, contractors, and green product
representatives will be present at every site with blueprints, samples of
products, and literature, for those who want to explore the technical and
performance information of any given element used in the buildings. There
will be a kiosk at each site with information explaining the guiding
philosophy of the project as well as the sustainable energy, water,
materials, air quality, and waste management features of that project.Buses
from Santa Barbara Airbus will be available to tour participants.
Ticket prices are $30 per day and include bus transportation to the tour
stops, an organic lunch, and an informational booklet about sustainable
building with special emphasis on the buildings featured on this year's
Parade. For further information, please call Dennis Allen at 805/682-4305 or
April Wethe at 805/963-1955x113.
