Position Title: Farming System Research Associate

Description: The research project investigates the relationships between
conventional, organic, and natural agriculture (control) ecosystems.
Components include soil health indicators, arthropod diversity and
abundance, plant growth parameters.  Project outcomes will help to better
understand the mechanisms working together in a whole system approach and
different effects from diverse cultural practices.  The successful candidate
will be an integral part of a research team including field staff, students,
and faculty.  The candidate will have the primary responsibility for
implementation of research design and conducting field production
activities, field sampling, laboratory analysis, and data management needed
to accomplish the project goals in collaboration with other team members.
Research will focus on diversified vegetable operations throughout the year,
targeting summer and winter rotations. The candidate will supervise and
coordinate field staff activities.

Qualification: B. S. or M.S. in an agriculture related discipline. Desirable
to have experience related to entomology, soil science, and/or plant
physiology and nutrition.
  Farm experience may be substituted for educational background.  Experience
in farm systems research and analysis; practical field research and
production knowledge.  Understanding of different management systems is
recommended.  The successful candidate should have a demonstrated ability to
work cooperatively within a team approach with colleagues, farmers, and the
general public; ability to collect, manage, and analyze data, and assist in
data preparation for publication; written and oral presentation skills for
farmer and technical audiences; interpersonal skills to effectively train
and manage temporary student and staff employees; ability to communicate
with cooperating growers and collaborating researchers.

Duration: Two years with renewal contingent upon satisfactory performance
and availability of funding.

Salary: Based on experience and qualifications.
