                              Job Description

                Environmental Outreach Programs Coordinator

SCOPE OF POSITION:  The Environmental Outreach Programs Coordinator is a
part-time (up to 20 hours/week) non-exempt position.

REPORTING:  This position reports to the Santa Maria Valley Discovery
Museum Director.

LOCATION:  SMV Discovery Museum

SUMMARY OF POSITION:

The Environmental Outreach Programs Coordinator is responsible for
developing and conducting outreach programs including Roots and Shoots,
north county Creek Watchers classes and volunteer creek monitoring for
public and private K-6 schools.  May assist with Museum public
environmental education community outreach programs and in-house
after-school programs.

DUTIES:
1.   Develop, schedule, help to promote, conduct and track attendance for
Roots and Shoots, Creek Watchers and creek monitoring outreach programs.

2.   Recruit, train, direct and schedule creek monitoring volunteers.
Analyze results of monitoring activities.  Maintain written information
regarding volunteers and coordinate transfer of data to collection point.

3.   Assist program staff with community outreach programs and in-house
after-school programs that are topic related to Roots and Shoots and Creek
Watchers.

4.   Work with Museum Program Coordinator and other museum staff and Creek
Watcher Program Coordinator on all outreach programs.

5.   Attend watershed meetings in community as they arise for professional
development relating to watershed education.

REQUIREMENTS:
1.   Demonstrated teaching experience in elementary education; credential
preferred; environmental education/science background desirable.
2.   Strong people and verbal/written communication skills.  Capable of
dealing proactively in occasional confrontational situations.
3.   Organized and detail oriented.  Motivated, self-starting individual
with enthusiasm and desire to take initiative.
4.   Neat appearance.  Reporting to work on time as scheduled.
5.   Computer skills required.  Basic experience with word processing,
spreadsheets programs essential.


   RATE OF PAY:  $10-$12/hr. DOE
