SUPPORT SUSTAINABLE BUILDINGS AND GARDENS!

The Sustainability Project, a non-profit organization
in Santa Barbara, and the Santa Barbara Contractor's
Association are hosting a "Parade of Green Buildings
and Gardens" on Saturday, October 12, 2002. In
addition, on Friday, October 11th, the public is
invited to a lecture given by Mr. Bill Browning, an
expert on green building principles from the Rocky
Mountain Institute in Snowmass, Colorado. The special
event will be held at the Santa Barbara Museum of
Natural History’s Fleischman Auditorium, with a
reception with Mr. Browning at 6:00 p.m. and the
lecture scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m. and the
lecture scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. The Community
Environmental Council and Santa Barbara City College
Continuing Education Program are co-sponsors of the
lecture and parade events.

The goal of the Parade of Green Buildings and Gardens
is to educate the public on the importance of
sustainable design by showcasing buildings and gardens
from around Santa Barbara where "green" methods are
successfully put to use. Many of the projects have
never been seen publicly and feature the most up to
date conservation techniques and sustainable systems.

In order to provide our guests with a pleasant and
educational experience, we will need many volunteers
at the Friday Night Event and at all of the sites the
day of the Parade to help with various hosting duties.
We expect the Parade to attract major community
interest, and through volunteering your time you will
be able to share your interest in sustainability and
help support a better future. People of any age and
experience are welcome to participate, and all
volunteers will be provided with any information or
training needed.

We recognize that your time is valuable, and we
request that our volunteers commit to one two-hour
shift. You are welcome to contribute additional time
and effort. In recognition of your efforts and great
assistance, each volunteer will receive a free ticket
(a value of $10) to tour the Parade.

We request that volunteers be willing to commit to at
least one of the following shifts:

Friday, October 11th:
Gathering of Food Donations
4-6 p.m. (Set-up for Reception)
6-8 p.m. (Reception & Clean-up)
