INTERNSHIPS AVAILABLE AT THE HOPE FARM!


Food not Lawns has leased some outbuildings and
several acres of land on a local 20-years organic farm
here in the Willamette Valley. The land is also home
to more than 800 fruit trees and a five acre filbert
orchard, as well as chickens, ducks, cows, dogs, cats,
some other farmers and a horse. We plan to get some
homing pigeons, laying hens and perhaps a couple of
lambs for wool... We are calling thie project the
H.O.P.E. Farm, short for Holistic Organic Permaculture
Education. We will install a 2000 plant botanical
sanctuary and are currently planning an education
proJect that will run May through October and consist
of approximately 40 hands-on workshops on topics such
as:
Permaculture design
Eco-building
Kinship gardening
A sixteen week organic farming series
An advanced permaculture series
A permaculture water design series
etc...


We have room for up to two interns at a time, May
through October. Internships will run from 4-16 weeks
long and include camping space, some meals,
individualized instruction and free admission to all
of the workshops while you are here. We are unable at
this time to offer indoor sleeping space, nor are we
able to accept interns with dogs or kids- (perhaps
next year...)

Interns would be expected to participate in the
majority of the workshops that occur while you are
here, as well as volunteer an additional 20 hours per
week helping in the gardens and on the developing
permaculture site.

Volunteer activities might include planting, weeding,
mulching, building compost, moving irrigation pipes,
answering mail, helping with the farmer's market or
CSA deliveries, setting up for workshops, cob or other
building projects, animal husbandry, seed saving,
library research, or writing articles for local
publications.

We can teach many of these skills, but ask that
applicants have SOME prior organic gardening
experience, and that they be personally dedicated to
low-impact organic living. (i.e. we have composting
toilets, no fridge, no TV and no cell phones allowed!)

including all experience with permaculture, natural
building, organic gardening and community activism.
Related materials such as newpaper clippings or
artwork are welcome, and will be returned to you as
long as you include a self-addressed stamped envelope.


Please address the following questions in your bio:
1. What type of environment did you grow up in? Urban,
rural, mainstream or no? be specific.
2. What lead you to organics and permaculture? Where
do you want to go from here?
3. List five topics in order of preference that you
would like to focus on during your internship.
4. Provide three personal references who are not your
relatives.

FOR LOCAL FOLKS...

Everyone is invited to attend weekly H.O.P.E. farm
volunteer work parties to help set up our Permaculture
Demo site and botanical gardens...

Work Parties are every SUNDAY. We'll meet for
carpooling at 165 N. Grand in Eugene at 10am, rain or
shine. Bring a bag lunch, carpools will return by 4pm.

Work projects for January through March include:
Building a solar water heater
Installing two tile mosaics
Installing a small brick patio and outdoor shower
Cleaning and painting
Small-scale demolition work
Installing library shelves
Erecting and skinning greenhouses
Building sheds and outhouses
