Friday 14, 7-10 Yo Sun University Lecture
Saturday & Sunday 9-4 Venice High School Workshop
Agroforestry is a land management, stewardship techniques of using
multi-story trees, shrubs, ground cover, root crops and vines within a
confined areas.
This highly diversifies perennial farming system uses the principles of a
mature forest to build many functions into a community farming system.
Alleviating
a need for synthetic fertilizers, pesticides and herbicides by replacing
natural biological functions and the activities of diversity. For thousands of
years ancient cultures produced their foods, medicines and other daily
necessities in agroforestry systems linking perennial and annual gardens.
Many of the
wild jungles of today are actually over-grown gardens of ancient peoples
Agrforestry is a process of on-site resource production, based on perennial
crops
that mimic the structure of a forest system.
Forest Gardening is the cultivation of complex long-lived polycultures that
yield food, fiber and medicine for community uses. This is a synthesis of
agroforestry techniques with domestic economy. This powerful paradigm
offers the
world hope for the increased food security, ecological restoration and a new
economics.
As the petroleum dependence of the global economy topples us towards a
permanent state of war, no more pressing issues presents itself than food ,
water
and energy security. This is home-grown well being for home land security..
Forest Gardening in the backyard has been a community success. Institutions,
public parks, school yards and golf courses can grow edible parks and
plazas that
could impact healthier people and a planet with agroforestry techniques. These
designs are on the cutting edge of a 10,000 year old technology.
