please forward to all who may be interested...

Hey cobbers and want-to-learn cobbers -

Everyone is invited to a weekend cob workparty Sept.
25-26, in Los Olivos. The focus will be finish work to
prepare for the roof to be put on the following week.
This is da seldom scene aspect of most cob workshops,
so c'mon an participate in the magic of finish work.

Folks are invited to come early to prep, on Friday the
24th, or any part of the weekend.

All skill levels are welcome. We will also be mixing
and earth plastering the exterior, working the
sub-floor, installing some deadmen (wood anchoring
blocks in the wall) and finishing any remaining holes
in the structure. Some carpentry skills will be
especially useful for those who frame windows and
doors.

This is a no-charge volunteer event, with a no-host
food plan, so please bring extra food and drink to
share potluck style, or just slyly munch your hemp
bars when no one is watching.

Spirit Pine Ranch is located on Figueroa Mountain,
Santa Barbara County, at 2,500 elevation. The ranch is
160 acres of oak woodlands that also include pine,
sage and yucca, entirely surrounded by the Los Padres
National Forest. The ranch has an awesome view of the
Santa Ynez Valley with lots of gorgeous hikes,
wildflowers, birds and other wildlife. The ranch is 11
miles from the nearest town of Los Olivos and has
several springs and one well. There is no shower
facility, but there are lots of ways to get clean.
Buellton or Los Alamos have motel accommodations
located 15-20 miles from the mountain. There are two
built cob cottages and a “cookshack.” The workshop
project is a third building, a duplex for teenagers
that can be converted to other uses later.

Directions: On Hwy. 101 between Buellton and Los
Alamos, take Hwy. 154 to Los Olivos. Turn left on
Figueroa Mountain Road. (Or Take 154 from SB into Los
Olivos and right on Figueroa Mountain Road.) Go 10.8
miles. Turn right into Spirit Pine Ranch. BE SURE TO
CLOSE GATE.
