  Not So Big approach to design
  How to reduce your ecological footprint in your own home and daily life.
   
  Bestselling author, architect and cultural visionary, Sarah Susanka, will be speaking on Thursday, September 6 at 7 p.m. at the Marjorie Luke Theater at Santa Barbara Junior High. Susanka is the author of a series of “Not So Big House” books, and is leading a movement that is redefining the American home and lifestyle.  Her "build better, not bigger" approach to residential design has been embraced across the country and her "Not So Big" philosophy has sparked international dialogue. 
   
  As a leading advocate for the re-popularization of residential architecture, Susanka has improved the quality of home design while countering the elitist image of architects so commonly held by the public. Today, with Susanka as emissary, the "Not So Big" movement is evolving beyond habitation and into how we inhabit our lives. In May 2007, Random House published The Not So Big Life wherein Susanka illustrates that ‘quality, not quantity’ in our lives and homes is a philosophy for a more fulfilling, sustainable life.

  A panel of local sustainable design experts will join Susanka for a Q&A following the lecture – including representatives from the City of Santa Barbara, The Sustainability Project, Santa Barbara City College Center for Sustainability, Community Environmental Council, Santa Barbara Contractors Association, and American Institute of Architects. Susanka will be available for a booksigning after the event, and copies of her book will be available for purchase.
   
  This lecture is the kickoff for a new adult education class, “JOIN THE GREEN REVOLUTION,” presented by The Sustainability Project.  Designed to help you find joy in consuming less and living more, six consecutive Tuesday evening sessions will cover local options for food, transportation, goods and services, and home and garden.  These classes will be held Tuesdays, beginning September 11th, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Faulkner Gallery (in the Santa Barbara Library).
               
  This event is presented by The Sustainability Project, SBCC Continuing Education, Community Environmental Council and the Santa Barbara Chapter of the Architecture Institute of America (AIA).
