Greetings all
I am a phd student at ucsb working with farming villages in eastern indonesia to conserve local bio-cultural diversity and heritage...
I am taking a locally-focused class right now in which I am looking into possibilities of a local seed network for the santa barbara area (for example, in which gardeners use a space in their garden to grow out seed of a certain variety, for collection to a local seed bank and later dissemination to those who wish to grow it).
If you garden, and have a few minutes, would you mind filling out the following survey for my project? (even if you are not interested in participating in such a network...) Many thanks from a fellow permaculture grad.

What are the main crops in your garden that you grow from seed?
Frequency of purchase of seed of main crops in garden:
(Check one of the following):
Rarely
Occasionally
Yearly

Type of seed (of main or favorite species):
Source of seed:
(Choose one of the following):
    1) Personally produced seed
           Family, other gardeners

    2) National seed companies

Scenario to assess opinions about seed procurement:
1) Suppose there is locally produced seed available that has the potential for increased local adaptation in terms of pest and disease resistance and yield stability, but with potentially lower yields. Would you prefer this seed over seed that may be slighty cheaper, is produced far away by large companies, and produces increased yields though dependent on more inputs, and is more risky in terms of pest and disease susceptibility? The corporate produced seed also cannot be saved each year, it will not have the same characteristics in the proceeding generations.

Choose:
Local seed
Corporate seed

2) Would you be willing to participate in a network of gardeners growing seed in order to maintain locally produced varieties, and to maintain an affordable stock of locally-relevant or desirable varieties?

Seed network participation:
	Yes
	No

Do know of varieties that you would like to see locally available?
Do you have or maintain varieties that you would like to grow out and share with a local seedbank?
