Part 1 - Water Harvesting Earthworks
Sat. April 11th, 9 am - 5 pm

Learn the principles of "planting rain" and harvesting water by 
shaping the earth berms and basins to catch and store 
water.  Participate in lecture, discussion and hands-on exercises in 
watersheds, hydrologic cycling, and the collection, distribution and 
infiltration of rain and greywater. This course is based on the work 
of Brad Lancaster and his book "Rainwater Harvesting - Volume 2: 
Water Harvesting Earthworks", in addition to the work of local 
Ecological Systems Designer and expert Art Ludwig and his book 
"Create an Oasis with Grey Water.


Part 2 - Building Healthy Soil
Sat. May 9, 9 am - 5 pm

Learn about the secret life of soil and how to improve fertility 
through composting, mulching, cover cropping and more.  Students will 
participate in lecture, discussion and hands-on exercises based on a 
variety of organic gardening traditions to improve soil structure and 
health.  This course is based on the book "Gaia's Garden:  A 
Home-scale Guide to Permaculture" by Toby Hemenway, and a variety of 
other organic gardening traditions, including; french intensive 
gardening (bio-dynamics), permaculture design, natural farming and more.


Part 3 - Solar Design for Home & Garden
Sat. June 13,

Explore solar energy in a whole new light.  This class will covers 
solar applications for homes including PV, passive solar and solar 
greenhouses, as well as how to design a garden in relationship to the 
sun.  Students will participate in lecture, discussion and hands-on 
exercises to utilize simple techniques of passive solar heating and 
storage utilizing thermal mass (water and earth), PV technologies, 
and garden/landscape design strategies to maximize solar resources 
and exposure.


Part 4 - Natural Material & Construction
Sat. June 27, 9 am - 5 pm

Learn the basics of natural building and how age old technologies can 
be used in modern applications.  Create healthy indoor environments 
using all natural non-toxic material like wood, clay, sand and 
straw.  This course will focus on simple techniques for using natural 
material to retrofit existing structures to be more energy efficient, 
improve indoor air quality and enhanced aesthetics.


These courses are Free with a suggested donation of $25.  Advanced 
registration is requested.
