Quail Springs Educational Farm Tour
Saturday, June 12

Join us to learn about permaculture design and how sustainability touches
the ground here at Quail Springs. And share a delicious catered lunch at the
farm!  
Quail Springs is about a 2-2.5 hour drive from Santa Barbara, San Luis
Obispo, and northern parts of Los Angeles, and 1-1.5 hours from Ojai &
Ventura.  We will send you driving directions & arrival instructions with
confirmation of your RSVP.  *The Farm Tour is already over half full, so
RSVP asap to join!

Farm Tour Program

Friday, June 11
6-8pm *optional early arrivals

Saturday, June 12
9-9:30am Arrivals to gate 
9:30-10am Check in
10am-1pm TOUR
1pm Lunch
2-3pm Conversations & early departures
3:30pm Departures (unless you’re staying on for the Backyard Poultry &
Homemade Cheese Workshop, see below!)

What to bring:  comfortable walking shoes, sunhat, layered clothing for
shifts in weather, personal water bottle, snacks as needed (lunch served
around 12:30pm).  You may wish to bring a camera & notebook.  

Cost: $20/adult, $5/child includes tour and lunch.  

Childcare:  During the tour, if you’d be interested childcare, please let us

*Option to arrive early to camp Friday night, arrivals 6-8pm:  RSVP no later
than June 9th for this option. We welcome you to arrive on Friday evening
6-8pm to camp overnight at our group campsite.  Please bring your own
camp-style foods for the evening and morning, and plan to ‘pack out’ your
recycling & trash.  The campsite has a simple outhouse & water for hand
washing, plenty of tent camping spaces (park your car ¼ mile away), and only
a few spaces for car camping by request. 

Carpooling:  We encourage guests to journey out and share the experience of
the Farm Tour with friends or family.  If you would otherwise be driving
alone, please let us know and we’ll try to connect you with a carpool.

Backyard Poultry and Homemade Cheese - Hands on Skill Building Workshop @
Quail Springs

(Offered in association with the June 12 Farm Tour)

June 12 & 13, Saturday and Sunday

 

Quail Springs’ farm managers, Brenton Kelly and Jan Smith, are offering a
workshop in the basics of backyard poultry (eggs and meat birds) and
beginning cheese making (with a little goat milking and animal husbandry
thrown in).  This is coming together with short notice by request of prior
guests, so Brenton & Jan will run the workshop with a 6 person minimum
(enlist your friends) - 10 person maximum attendance.  $150 tuition per
person (includes all of the below activities & meals). 

 

The workshop includes: 

 

Saturday, June 12

·         Farm Tour & Lunch (cost included)

·         Cob Oven Feast that night with an introduction to earth oven
cooking (roasted chicken, sourdough bread, yummies from the garden)

·         A night of camping in the beautiful high desert

 

Sunday, June 12

·         Join in 7am morning goat milking!

·         Morning tea & light breakfast 

·         Intro to basic backyard poultry & butchering with Brenton (9am –
12pm)

·         Delicious homegrown lunch provided by Quail Springs

·         Beginning cheese making with Jan (1:30-3:00pm)

·         Closing circle (3:15- 4:15pm) and safe travels home
