Sustainable Vocations has expanded!  We're offering curriculum and program
support 
to Green the Rez campaign, which works with tribes in California and Nevada
in a broad 
approach to current economic and workforce development opportunities.  In
addition, a 
graduate of our program is developing Sustainable Vocations - North
Carolina, a 
partnership between Quail Springs and Good Work, a Raleigh-based community 
development organization which is providing its first Sustainable Vocations
training for 
young people this summer!

WORM COMPOSTING WORKSHOP: BUILDING & MAINTAINING WORM BINS FOR YOUR HOME OR
WORKPLACE
with Brenton Kelly, Quail Springs Land Steward & Livestock Manager 

Saturday, AUGUST 21st, 10am - 3pm at a downtown Santa Barbara residence 

Cost: $30 in advance, $40 at the door.  Couples $45 in advance, $60 at the
door.  Kids are 
free.

Brenton Kelly has been singing the praises of the mighty earthworm for the
past 25 years. He's 
introduced 1000s of folks to the basics of the wormbin in classrooms,
festivals, workshops, and 
as a co-owner of Island Seed and Feed. Learn how worms efficiently and
easily compost a wide 
range of your present 'waste' stream - food, shredded paper, and more. If
you have concerns or 
problems with your current backyard compost pile, worms may be the solution.
Morning 
session: Setting up & maintaining a worm box successfully, caring for your
worms, and get your 
questions answered about composting.  Afternoon Session: Learn how to build
your worm box, 
get plans & a materials list to build one for your home or workplace.  Bring
a bag lunch, plenty 
of water and a picnic blanket. Parents with children interested to learn are
welcome to attend 
together.  Workshop limited to 20 participants.

FARM & GARDEN INTERNSHIPS - FALL SESSION (August 16-November 15)

Hands-on service learning at Quail Springs' permaculture demonstration and
education 
site.  Activities include permaculture gardening, farming and earthworks,
seed saving, 
plant propagation, livestock care, milking, cheese making, yogurt,
butchering (not 
required), bread making, food preparation using fresh local ingredients,
preserving the 
harvest, non-profit administration, general chores and community care, and
more!

HANDS-ON PERMACULTURE DESIGN CERTIFICATION COURSE - October 31st - November
13th 

This 2-week immersion course covers the permaculture curriculum for
certification, and 
includes hands-on learning in a diversity of applied topics that lead to
sustainability for 
individuals, families, businesses and communities.  You will learn to design
and apply 
natural principles to create stable and resilient systems that provide food,
water, shelter 
and energy needs while regenerating ecology, community and economy.  Quail
Springs 
is a unique location to take your PDC and is known for its community flare
and 
hospitality amidst a mountainous 450 acre landscape surrounded by national
forest.   

Instructors: Learn with Warren Brush, international educator and co-founder
of Quail 
Springs, with Quail Springs' team of instructors.
