The Unitarian Society of Santa Barbara Seventh Principle Action Network
Presents the Award-winning film:
BIDDER 70
In 2008, University of Utah college student Tim
DeChristopher disrupted the Bush administration’s
last-minute auction of thousands of acres of Utah
wilderness land. Facing a possible 10 years in
prison, he refused to plea bargain, even when
offered clemency if he did so. Tim continued to
boldly speak out during and after his trial,
stating that he hoped his example would serve to
inspire others. Below is an excerpt from his sentencing statement:
“At this point of unimaginable threats on the
horizon, this is what hope looks like. In these
times of a morally bankrupt government that has
sold out its principles, this is what patriotism
looks like. With countless lives on the line,
this is what love looks like, and it will only grow.”

Tim was prosecuted despite the auction itself
being determined to be legally invalid. He was
released after 2 years in prison in April
2013. He has become an accomplished speaker and
continues to be a compelling and unique UU voice
for ethical individual activism in a world in
great need of true moral leadership. This
award-winning film tells the story of Tim and
Peaceful Uprising, the remarkable and creative
Salt Lake City community that evolved to support
Tim and his work. Joan Gregory, Environmental
Ministry leader of First Unitarian Church of Salt
Lake City, Tim’s church, will join us via Skype
to answer questions and for further discussion.
     FRIDAY NOVEMBER 15 8:00 – 10:00 PM
