MATILIJA COALITION TO LEAD TOUR OF DOOMED SITE

On October 12, Secretary of the Interior Bruce Babbitt will visit Matilija 
Dam to inaugurate a demonstration project for removing the dam.  The Matilija 
Coalition is organizing a public tour on the following Saturday (October 14) 
for those interested in visiting Matilija Dam and learning more about the 
removal demonstration project.  


An engineer from the Ventura County Flood Control District will explain the 
demonstration project and issues associated with the eventual removal of the 
dam.  A local naturalist will also be present to give an interpretive tour of 
Matilija Creek.   Come and spend the morning with the Coalition as we explore 
a current political issue while learning about the local ecosytem and efforts 
underway to restore this once pristine environment.
